Reception Counter Casework
A custom casework reception counter requires details to describe what is required. While striving to accommodate the work flow of the user, it is pointless to make it too customized - people move on.
Not shown here are the ADA counter height and knee space that is required now. See this article for one solution.
The transaction top is shown 14" deep, which is a good size for signing in on visitors' list. Overhanging the front face of the casework a few inches would improve the detail. Also using a work surface height of 30" would be preferred.
The front face of the casework can be any material you like. This counter was curved to fit the space, and limited the choices somewhat.

This detail is suggested to specify the configuration, construction and materials required for the reception counter.
These details may eliminate the need for specifications covering these conditions if quality requirements are included in the notes.
These details are referenced on the floor plans or interior elevations.
ADA requires clearances and specific counter heights at public counters. Make sure your details are coordinated with those requirements.
You may want a specification covering the quality and installation aspects of these materials.
These details should be placed on the Interior Details sheets, the A-500 series of sheets per the National CAD Standards, contrary to the designations shown here.
